2021 Raw & Reflective Calendar – see us at Meridian Place Saturday (s…)
Many of you know that I am a cancer survivor… some of your GVers have also been impacted by cancer.
The RAW and REFLECTIVE 2021 calendar is once again being launched to raise funds for Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka.
Only this time it matters more than ever. Why?
Yes, we want to give a voice to cancer survivors (and those who have lost the struggle). Yes, we want to bring awareness to the impact of this fateful diagnosis.
But now more than ever, cancer is a pandemic of its own. The prediction that as of 2020 one in two people will experience a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime is true.
Right now.
One in Two.
Cancer Care Ontario stats indicate in 2020, Ontarians are expected to be diagnosed with an estimated 91,946 new cases of cancer (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer).
And now, more than ever cancer patients need the support that Gilda’s gives… the support that does not turn anyone away. In this COVID-19 pandemic, money is short, access to lifesaving surgeries is backlogged and isolation is increasing. Those with cancer need our support.
Spearheaded by local entrepreneur Sharon Smith (GV32) in the fall of 2018, the Raw and Reflective calendar once again features 12 models, 13 of Barrie’s most accomplished photographers and videographer, a graphic designer, an editor and a dedicated volunteer committee who brought this project together to raise funds for Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka. The project has been sponsored by a number of generous firms in Barrie and across the county.
Our theme this year is courage. In the middle of a pandemic, courage is needed more than ever – and to gain that courage – more than ever people battling cancer cannot be alone.
Gilda’s Club of Simcoe Muskoka ensures that no–one in our region has to face cancer alone. In spite of receiving no funding from government subsidies, Gilda’s Clubs do not turn anyone away. They operate over 700 programs and welcome all affected by cancer with understanding, compassion and care. On this, their 10th anniversary, we are proud to have the opportunity to support one of our critical resources in the fight against this heartless disease.
