Barrie police responded to a truck rally over the weekend at Georgian Mall, with 10 charges being laid overall.

Officers say the gathering on Saturday evening, on the mall’s north side parking lot, included roughly 500 people and 150 trucks.

“What started as a gathering of truck enthusiasts shortly after 6:00 p.m., quickly evolved into a chaotic scene of disrespect and total disregard for private property as a number of trucks, some of which were trailered to the parking lot area, began to do what is referred to brake stands, burnouts, and peel outs,” police wrote in a release.

“This activity created large plumes of smoke as burning rubber quickly filled the air and left visible marks on the parking lot surface.”

According to police, people were seen climbing onto nearby construction equipment and even on the roof of the mall.

“As some vehicles left, police were able to stop them on Bayfield Street where infractions were laid which included Unnecessary Noise and No Muffler – Motor Vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.”

Officers say the event ended around midnight, and no injuries were reported.

This is following a previous unsanctioned truck rally at Bayfield Mall in early May that also caught the eye of police, where dozens of charges were laid.

“The Barrie Police Service does not condone this unsafe, damaging activity and where possible, will hold those responsible accountable for their actions,” officers added.
