We’ve sprung into spring and couldn’t be happier about it. Here’s the news that blossomed this month in CIRA-land. |
1. Let’s get connected. CIRA’s latest report, Getting connected: funders and digital equity in Canada, reveals Canadian funders are feeling urgency to tackle the country’s digital inequities. Funders have been inundated with requests for hardware, software, and connectivity since March 2020, and CIRA’s grants program is just one of the few that already addresses these issues in Canada. Read the full report on how we can increase digital funding. 2. Canada’s Competition Act. Big Tech is hurting small business, but the Canadian government can help, so says CIRA president and CEO, Byron Holland, in his latest article. The government’s promise to review the Competition Act is Canada’s best chance to push back on the monopoly mindset of Silicon Valley. Read the article here. 3. Keeping up with cyber criminals. How can we ensure employees know about new types of phishing tactics such as browser-in-the-browser (BitB) attacks? How can sharing articles help contribute to building a cyber-conscious workplace culture? Did you know that a recent survey found more than 7-in-10 Canadians prefer to support Canadian businesses whenever possible? The other three probably don’t even like maple syrup.
