Did you see the initiatives announced by Prime Minister Trudeau last week?

I’ve been tracking the programs announced by both the federal government and the premier’s office in Ontario and report on them daily on this Grow Vantage web page: https://www.growvantage.com/resources-during-covid-19/

Here is the Summary from last week. A lot of changes have been put in place.

  • APRIL 19TH: 3 POINT ECONOMIC PLAN WAS UPDATED LAST WEEK, INCLUDING: THE CERB FOR LOST WAGES, LOANS FOR BUSINESSES AND WAGE SUBSIDIES, WHICH WERE EXPANDED LAST WEEK; AND SUPPORT FOR THE ENERGY, ARTS, CULTURE AND SPORTS SECTORS, AS WELL AS SUPPORT FOR INDIGENOUS BUSINESSES AND NORTHERN CANADA.
  • APRIL 19TH: LAST WEEK, THE DISABILITY ADVISORY GROUP WAS LAUNCHED. RECOGNIZED ORGANIZATIONS LIKE THE RICK HANSEN FOUNDATION.
  • APRIL 19TH: STRENGTHENING OVERSIGHT OF FOREIGN INVESTMENT INTO VULNERABLE CANADIAN FIRMS AND FOREIGN TAKEOVERS OF CANADIAN FIRMS WILL BE MORE DEEPLY SCRUTINIZED (E.G. CHALLENGES AROUND HEALTHCARE SUPPLIES WHICH NEED TO REMAIN IN CANADA); WE ALSO NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO STARTUPS WITH BRILLIANT IDEAS WHO MAY FACE CASH CRUNCHES AT THIS TIME.
  • APRIL 19TH: WHILE ENCOURAGING TRENDS, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF FAMILIES ACROSS CANADA WHO ARE GOING THROUGH TERRIBLE TIMES AND MOURNING, OR SENIORS IN FACILITIES WHO CANNOT SEE THEIR FAMILIES AND ARE WORRIED ABOUT THE OUTBREAKS IN LONG TERM CARE HOMES.
  • APRIL 19TH: MESSAGE TO KIDS: ON VOLUNTEER WEEK – WHICH THE KIDS CAN PARTICIPATE IN AS WELL AT HOME. THERE IS ALSO A NATIONAL COVID-19 VOLUNTEER HELP LINE. WE ALL HAVE A CHANCE TO CONTRIBUTE.
  • APRIL 18TH: APPROVED AN EXTENDED REQUEST TO DEPLOY THE RANGERS INTO QUEBEC TO ASSIST WITH HEALTHCARE AND NORTHERN COMMUNITIES
  • APRIL 18TH: FACEBOOK STILL HAS NOT WORKED OUT AVAILABILITY FOR BUSINESS LOANS FOR CANADIAN COMPANIES. GRANTS ARE BEGINNING TO BE RELEASED IN SOME US CITIES. CHECK IN WITH THE BUSINESS HUB https://www.facebook.com/business/boost/resource?ref=grants
  • April 18th: CLOSURE OF CANADA-U.S. BORDER EXTENDED FOR ANOTHER 30 DAYS
  • April 18th: TRUDEAU PLEDGES $306M FOR INDIGENOUS BUSINESSES
  • April 18th: AIR PASSENGERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR NON-MEDICAL MASKS STARTING APRIL 20TH
  • April 17th: TRUDEAU ANNOUNCES HELP FOR STRUGGLING ENERGY SECTOR (INCLUDING CLEAN UP OF ORPHAN WELLS
  • April 17th: ONTARIO EXPANDED LIST OF FRONTLINE/ESSENTIAL WORKERS ELIGIBLE FOR DAYCARE/CHILDCARE
  • April 17th: CERB: 7.5 MILLION PAYMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO APRIL 17TH. FUTURE UPDATES WILL BE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE GOVERNMENT’S OPEN DATA PORTAL 3 X PER WEEK.
  • April 17th: $962 MILLION IN SUBSIDIZATION ANNOUNCED FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCIES
  • April 17th: FUTUREPRENEUR PROGRAM AND THE INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ASSISTANCE PROGRAM WILL RECEIVE $270 MILLION TO SUPPORT INNOVATORS AND OTHER STARTUPS WHO ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE WAGE SUBSIDY.
  • April 17th: $500 MILLION TO HERITAGE CANADA FOR ARTS, CULTURE AND SPORTS INDUSTRIES (FOR WAGE SUBSIDY OR ORGANIZATIONAL LIQUIDITY.
  • April 17th: SEE ANNOUNCEMENTS (OR LOCAL GROUPS/MEMBER NEWS TAB ON GROWVANTAGE.COM) FOR NOTES FOLLOWING BARRIE CHAMBER TOWN HALL WITH MPS, MPPS AND ONTARIO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
  • APRIL 17 – JOHN BRASSARD REPORTS CANADA EMERGENCY COMMERCIAL RENT ASSISTANCE (CECRA): MORE DETAIL TO BE PUBLISHED:  PROGRAM FOR APRIL MAY AND JUNE – THEY NEED TO WORK WITH PROVINCES AND TERRITORY (BECAUSE THAT IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY).
  • April 17th: CEBA – CANADIAN EMERGENCY BUSINESS ACCOUNT – EXPANDING ELIGIBILITY – $20,000 – AND $1.5 MILLION TOTAL PAYROLL IN 2019 ($7.5 BILLION IN CREDIT)
  • April 17th NOTE FROM CBC: ON CANADA SUMMER JOBS PROGRAM. WHILE STUDENT JOBS ARE SUBSIDIZED AT 100% – PROGRAM APPLICATIONS ALREADY CLOSED – IN FEBRUARY. MPs WILL BE ABLE TO SELECT ADDITIONAL COMPANIES TO RECEIVE THE SUBSIDY. DETAILS ARE PENDING.
  • April 16th: G7 MEETING: EMPHASIZED GLOBAL CO-OPERATION TO PROVIDE SAFETY FOR OUR CITIZENS AND HELP MORE VULNERABLE GLOBAL CITIZENS
  • April 16th: CERB APPLICATIONS FOR NEW PERIOD (APRIL 12 – MAY 9) OPEN APRIL 16TH (SEE BEST DAY TO APPLY BELOW)
  • April 16th: CERB NOW INCLUDES THOSE EARNING UP TO $1,000/MONTH  (AS OF APRIL 15TH). THIS WILL COVER SEASONAL WORKERS, CONTRACTORS OR PEOPLE WORKING PART-TIME
  • PROVINCIAL TAX RELIEF – BUSINESSES WILL GET 5 MONTHS OF INTEREST AND PENALTY RELIEF (SEE PROVINCIAL SECTION)
  • APRIL 15 TH: WAGE BOOST APPROVED FOR ESSENTIAL WORKERS MAKING LESS THAN $2500/MONTH (INCLUDING THOSE WORKING IN LONG TERM CARE.
  • SERVICE ONTARIO IS CLOSED. HERE IS THE MESSAGE FROM THEIR SITE – NO NEED TO RENEW (CHECK PROVINCIAL SECTION)
  • REOPENING THE ECONOMY: WE WILL HAVE TO COORDINATE PROVINCES, DO THIS IN PHASES – WILL STILL BE WEEKS AWAY AND WE’LL HAVE TO DO THIS CAREFULLY. TALKS ARE IN PROGRESS WITH THE PROVINCES
