10:45 am Join an Indian Folk Dance workshop with Lasya Dance School at Meridian Place 11:15 am Tai Chi and Square Dancing workshop with the Simcoe Chinese Association at Meridian Place11:45 am Poetry reading at Meridian Place with Barrie’s Poet Laureate, Ty the Poetess 12:00 pm Choir performance and workshop with Bravado at Meridian Place 12:45 pm Dance party in Meridian Place with DJ Cachet 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Join Jenn from Art with Purpose and try printmaking a hot air balloon. Print on paper or bring a t-shirt or other fabric to create on. Find her setup by the “Elevate” hot air balloon mural by Donaleighs. 1:00 pm Free Pilates Class on Dunlop Street in front of Donaleighs with Jim from Namaste North 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm Guided walking tour of Brightening Barriers, a temporary public art exhibition. Starting at Meridian Place 2:00 pm Public art walking tour with local artist Monica Loney. Meet at Meridian Place by the cenotaph for a walking conversation exploring some of the public art that’s been popping up in Downtown Barrie. The tour will end at Shak’s World at 3pm for the celebration of the “Home” mural by Clandestinos Art. 2:00 pm Musical performance with Megan Anne on the Meridian Stage 2:30 pm Salsa Dance Workshop with Salsa Beats at Meridian Place |
3:00 pm to 5:00 pm Celebration for the “Home” mural by Clandestinos Art at Shak’s World. Stop by for snacks and music and meet the artists behind the colourful mural on Maple Avenue. 3:30 pm Caribbean music performance by Freez’ Careeb on the Meridian Stage 4:00 pm Free Drop by Dance Class on Dunlop Street near Donaleighs with Uptempo Dance Studio. Join in and feel the rhythm 5:00 pm Musical performance by South African-Canadian singer-songwriter Zaki Ibrahim on the Meridian Stage. Groove to the blend of R&B, soul and jazz. 8:00 pm Dance it Up with DJ Jones in Meridian Place. He’ll be taking live requests and playing hits from across the world. Come together and dance as a community. Adjacent to the Kick-Off is Open-Air Dunlop, which will see Dunlop Street East closed to cars and open for pedestrians and cyclists to roam freely, enjoying shopping, patios and many more activities.On the same day, there will also be Comic Fest at the Downtown Library and Game On at Five Points Theatre.For more info, visit barrie.ca/culturedays |
Mews Fest returns! Join us this Sunday September 24th, between 10am and 4pm in the Lakeshore Mews for the second annual Mews Fest. Enjoy live music, vendors, tasty eats and cozy community feels. To celebrate we’ll be hiding 6 golden mews mice throughout Downtown Barrie during Open Air Dunlop this Saturday. If you find one, bring it to From Babu to redeem it for mews buck to use at Sunday’s Festival. |
