Emergency Preparedness for Summer and Day Camps – Seminar
This interactive one-day seminar is designed for the operators, managers, and staff of summer and day camps to enhance their preparedness for emergencies and potential disasters.
An outbreak of tornadoes broke out across Ontario on a hot August day a few years ago leaving a 10-year-old boy dead at a day camp in a conservation area. Emergency Management & Training was tasked to conduct debriefings and write a report on the response to the crisis. Our findings unveiled a camp that lacked an emergency preparedness plan and, aside from first aid, required no training for staff. This incident has prompted us to offer this one day intensive seminar to assist camps in being better prepared for emergencies of all types.
This one day seminar will touch on many topics including identifying the risks, prevention and mitigation, emergency plan development, response, crisis communications with the families and media and more. We will deal with emergencies ranging from severe weather to missing campers, medical emergencies to camp security, and so much more.
