About the Mayor’s Innovation Awards
The fourth annual Innovation Awards go ‘Beyond the New Normal’, discovering and celebrating stories of strength, creativity, and adaption from across the community. The awards recognize businesses, individuals, and organizations whose innovative approaches and sheer determination contributes to a resilient foundation for our city.
2021 Categories
Creative Collaboration
Recognizing two or more companies/organizations that have forged an alliance and reached new heights or achievements that they couldn’t have alone. Contributions may be across sectors, industries, geographies, or verticals; milestones may span the development of new products, services, supply chains, operations, and beyond!
Pivot Point
Recognizing a company or organization that has discovered and pursued opportunity(ies) to grow in unexpected directions when faced with market or operational challenges. A need to purposefully take action with risk was addressed and implemented. They have assessed, adapted, and evolved with key changes to their business model or processes that show promising results. Actions may include new revenue sources, new uses for products, evolving to service new needs, and more.
Community Impact
Recognizing an organization (public or private) or individual that has stepped up to proactively build connection, resilience, and morale among Barrie residents, businesses, and/or cultural communities. Nominees may come from any sector or sphere!
Shift Disturber
Recognizing an individual who has championed innovation in their organization or community. Where others see opposition, they see opportunity. This individual is a powerhouse of creative problem solving, shaking up norms and spearheading strategic solutions in the midst of uncertainty.

The Mayor’s Innovation Awards is a massive community movement that encompasses collaboration and bold new ways of moving forward in an ever-changing climate. Patricia is the Business Mentor and owner of Grow Vantage and a Past President of the Barrie Chamber of Commerce. She applies over 30 years of business experience (from start-up to corporate) to mentor entrepreneurs. Since 2011, she has held over 6,500 coaching and training sessions in-person and online. Through Ask For Directions Training, her entrepreneurial training program (and parent company Grow Vantage), and as a business coach, she works with start-ups who are new (or who have lost traction) to design, launch and grow their businesses. Along with 20 other expert instructors she teaches strategies in marketing, sales, communications, and finance, as well as practical techniques to increase productivity, and manage their businesses. In other words, everything entrepreneurs need to learn to grow and run their businesses successfully, and avoid the costly mistakes they can't even see coming - that lead to delays in growth and getting stuck.
