The Salvation Army Barrie Bayside Mission’s Community Meal Program will be coming to an end effective April 1, 2023. We will continue to provide our regular meal program for The Salvation Army Barrie Bayside Mission’s emergency shelter residents.
In 2013, the County of Simcoe asked The Salvation Army to establish a Community Meal Program to support those living on the streets, initially providing 60 healthy meals daily.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Community Meal Program was expanded to meet evolving needs and serve residents at other emergency shelters and warming stations. At its peak, The Salvation Army Barrie Bayside Mission’s Community Meal Program served over 12,000 meals per month.
In consultation with the County of Simcoe and other agency partners, financial support previously allocated to The Salvation Army Barrie Bayside Mission’s Community Meal Program will be distributed across agencies in Barrie to support multiple food insecurity programs in the community.
“We are very grateful for the support of the County of Simcoe and our donors who helped us provide meals to the most vulnerable during a time of great need in the community,” the Salvation Army said in a news release on Tuesday.
The Salvation Army Barrie Bayside Mission will continue to provide hope to the community’s most vulnerable through life-changing programs aligned with our homelessness prevention strategy which includes emergency shelter and transitional beds and our family emergency shelter program that comprises of 12 units off-site.
Programming such as case management, Pathway of Hope, Community and Family Services and religious and spiritual care will not be impacted.
