Hundreds of corporate and community participants and thousands of students will spring into action as part of Barrie’s Spring into Clean event.

This year’s event is being held from Friday, April 19 to Monday, April 22, 2024.

In 2023 approximately 17,000 residents participated in Spring into Clean. Participants were able to collect 6.47 tons of garbage. This was substantially more than the 4.8 tons that were collected in 2022 and 4.95 tons collected in 2019. (Spring into clean events were cancelled in 2020 and 2021.)

Other Ways To Help Keep Barrie Clean

Residents can also help keep Barrie clean all year round. Some easy ways to do this include:

  • Stack recycling boxes to stop the wind from carrying them away
  • Ensure you securely dispose of garbage in the correct containers when visiting public spaces
  • Bring waste home with you when you go out for a day trip
  • Use your local waste look up tool to make sure items are going in the right bin
  • Use reusable cups, straws, cutlery, shopping bags, etc
  • Find new ways to repurpose something that will otherwise be disposed of
  • Keep trash in a garbage bag in your car to stop it from falling out or blowing away
  • Use an ashtray to put out cigarettes

INTERESTING FACT: Cigarette butts surpass plastics as the single most littered item with 2 billion pounds tossed each year.

It doesn’t take much to make a big difference.

Spring into Clean is the perfect way to get involved in keeping Barrie clean, while also raising levels of environmental awareness and social responsibility.
