STREET CLOSURES And Traffic Trouble:

Cedar Pointe Drive In Barrie To Be Closed At Dunlop Street Until Mid-August

You can’t get there from here…but maybe from over there.

Access to Cedar Pointe Drive at Dunlop Street in Barrie will be denied sometime after 7 o’clock this morning (July 10) so the city can realign the sewer system in advance of the Dunlop Street bridge replacement. The existing alignment crosses Dunlop on the west side of the bridge and then crosses Highway 400 south of the bridge. This conflicts with MTO’s future bridge structure.

If you want to get to businesses on Cedar Pointe Drive, you’ll have to do it from Edgehill Drive. All businesses will always have at least one driveway access point throughout the construction.

Dunlop Street will remain open throughout, but there could be lane closures at times.

In addition, the sidewalk on the north side of Dunlop will be closed from Sarjeant Drive to Cedar Pointe Drive. And there will be issues for pedestrians on the west side of Cedar Pointe.

Bus route 6 will also be detoured.

This work is expected to be completed by mid-August.

ReleasePublished: Jul 12th, 2023

News release – City of Barrie

As part of the City of Barrie’s Duckworth Street improvement project, the intersection of Grove Street East and Duckworth Street will be closed from July 13 to July 21, 2023.

Detours will be in place (Duckworth Street: Bell Farm Road to St. Vincent Street; Grove Street: St. Vincent Street to Wellington Street/Steel Street to Penetanguishene Road).

Access for residents within the closure area will be maintained, and Barrie Transit routes 6 and 7 will be on detour.

The construction began in late June with the closure of Duckworth Street from Grove Street to Howard Crescent.

This road construction project will reconstruct Duckworth Street from Bell Farm Road to St. Vincent Street, and also includes a new watermain on Grove Street from Duckworth Street to Nelson Street. The estimated completion date for the entire project is spring 2025.

The Duckworth Street work includes new watermain, sewer replacements, and right-of-way improvements including, new sidewalks, new pavement, intersection upgrades, and road widening for bicycle lanes. The Grove Street work includes new watermain, pavement and bicycle lanes.
